My focus is on music, musicians, music venues, music teachers, and music schools. There is so much talent out in our communities that it's almost as if we don't get the attention that we deserve. And so I am that voice to help you get noticed and get the recognition and an attention that you deserve. I have to say that every time I have a show, I feel so blessed. I have so many great guests that joined me on my show, and I today have a special guest that is joining me from here in South Florida. I think he's in South Florida, and he is a world renowned international violinist, mister Steven Aviy welcome. I love it. How are you?

Absolutely, and Stephen, I have to say, and I'm watching our time because we only have so much time, and I feel there's so many questions I have, and I want to begin by recognizing you. Stephen. We've been friends on Facebook for years and years, and as a friend, as as a fan, as just a musician, I want to compliment you because I've not only seen you succeed, I've seen you grow and transform over the years, so much so that you know I I thought about this before talking to you today, and I've thought about it over the past week. I go, oh, I hope I don't cry because I feel also emotionally yeah, blessed to know you. But more so, I'm just so so in awe and so inspired by your drive, your motivation, your your creativity. And I've seen some of your performances I've seen recorded and and you just all the energy you put out To share with my audience a little bit about you, Please share with us a little bit about your journey as to where you began with with what inspired you to get started playing?

3:36 It's just a crime rights, I would say I first saw that. Finally. For me, I've started was a little bit with with music sinceince I was born. Actually, so. I mean, music's best part of my life. Even though that's me personally. I don't come from from your musicians. I person that really basic decision. There's some people, you know, my father, he learned somebody, but that was like really making not just much really being in the music, ducating all that time into just serious practice and the art form of instrumental or music in general as an art form.

4:22 You know, you know, I don't have anybody, so so it's it's been about that. I and on one part he was kind of lonely, but to only because I'm some amazing people on the way and you know it meanly I met you really really thank you so much for part of it, because even these are other good things makes the artists journey, you know, these interviews, the platforms express ourselves. So thank you so much. For me. I I've always had an interest with the violin, and specifically six years old. You know, by that time I was reallyious listening to auxestrating music, whether it was music scores or it was just classical music. Listening to to to Chrystler, listen to anything from bi Baldi or Mends and and and I told my mother, listen, you know I I can do something different instrument.

5:13 I wanted the violin. I wanted no one. This is all. It is all me, so at some us all I started with with formal training. Actually by my birthday I got my first violin my grandmother and I said, I my first recital. And from from then on, you know, I I just never never stopped. I did competitions from around putt important in. All the way to go about then, I you. Know, I was in a youth orchestra as well as I didn't want thing with you from bands composing recording in a studio. It was actually some great artice actually in and in fact even now I rereadly doing doing other projects outside of everything else I doing. But I really really do last night, but really for me, if you look, that's.

5:56 Number one, Okay, that's that's wonderful, wonderful. And you not only play, I've seen you you you conduct as well. Yes, I'm a conductor as as well as also many things that you outside of just complaining the violin is conducting. And what I love about it is that I feel in a. Way that even though I don't play a wind instrument, I feel like I'm learning about being someone that plays these wind instruments, you know, because because I believe one person I s have the knowledge recently will want to learn about about these instruments. So I really love them. I really love Blude Clear and in fact, actually I'm really in soon. Okay, So I really love this instrument that you would want whether you would hear in any other orchestra or instruments that are not necessarily because its orthodox.

6:49 So we have one person in my orchestra. So I also to say this, I have the blessing to say that I am the founder of the compassing the orchestra which you can and by the name of our. Small compound symphony. So we want to up later about about the next few shows coming up. Abs, Yes, because we have one flute is that doesn't just play the food, but he also plays the pinning was early also plays he plays the flute piano, so it's a flute. But then so small pianos like that small. I've seen this yes, I've seen this, yes. So so so so you know seething that I get really into those of instruments. So so for me personally, I as I have a large knowledge, becomes to string instruments, but not necessarily with those interests.

7:38 That's why I don't. I'm talking a lot about like flutes, et cetera, because because I believe that those musicians over my mind to those things. So being a director really is opening up in your mind and understanding that that's there's so much more than just played. And also, as I think too, the best the best directors are the ones that can't played it. Also like the seas m. I'm sorry now you've got to good to good. But I would also would also say that if the any secrets to to to to directing and h I really don't access because I just want to just give up my knowledge. My experience is that if you can, if you have the choice to get musicians yourself, which I was able.

8:31 To do during this during these. Concerts, the one thing I would say the most important is to pick using that's the best. There's many ways to do that. Actually one specific way and that's that's the valid way. But you can find that's the best. That's how we know that that's a great or even a film that believe the same rule like to to make the film. And to the point where really the more professional the people that you could are the. Easyda what is. It's to the point where I feel like a lot of my musicians I could just tell hey, just play it. I won't even direct, I'll just do this. Yeah, and then you know, so no, I've seen I have so many again, I have so many questions for you.

9:14 But since we're on the subject of your conducting, I've watched you conduct and not live. I've watched a replay, and maybe because being a musician, I really admire how you how you connected to the musicians. And not only did you connect with them, but they played like you can see on their faces they were in such joy with you because your energy is so expansive and and they, you know, it almost showed like they had some freedom in their playing because you did not. You did not structure them so much so that you didn't give them room to to be expressive.

9:56 I would say that, you know, in terms of make sure that's why we have first to also, you know, it's making sure that that's we're all together, not just playing, but we're all together as an orchestra, and making sure that maybe we understand what we are playing. After that, I give them the freedom, you know, I make. Sure that that's you know, they see the energy of each other, but also of the crowd because also in the products as what makes sense, and you know, I feel like I'm somewhere. So so share with our audience Stephen a little bit about your journey as far as how you began in the direction of connecting with venues and connecting with I mean, you're international.

10:41 That's huge. I mean you're worldwide and that's not easy. And you were telling me you are also playing in Canada. You know, how did you was it who you knew? Was it? Like? How how did you go about getting these these events booked? How did you How did you connect with the right people? How did you know. Right time in my place? And then just always making sure that that I was that I was always ready for a show. Out a bit in my challenge, whether he were just showing. Them live quick or giving an artical taste right a sample, or be virtual showing a video. I think even contact them because the main thing is not waiting for the right moment, just creating.

11:25 Yes, so a lot of people I would write prossing myself. Or I would do one events that before, and then one thing will lead to another, like I can I tell the story about father. It was to actually youngerly that it was to call I got in the middle of the night in Iceland. Oh wow, that's that's literally all started. You know. It was just a guy. I told me, hey, listen. I I can't promise anything, but they just sent me a password. I was already cause me. It's like, hey, I want to islands more of what you have? A concert? I got an a play right there with whole week. We did an amazing concert. It was called which is a French idea that's international.

12:10 And and we did over there first time in Iceland. I hope to do it again. This was ae years ago and I'm a person who really passed it on, et cetera. I started working with that person various times afterwards, and we we did, we did, we did Span, we did Orlando, we did all other places, you know. And then it got to a certain certain team that wanted to fund at the young the money to produce comp orchestra. I think director who was playing of music at the time with the violin. With classical music. It was me. So that's so. So we we had talked about vision with an amazing artist who is really a pioneer. Him and him and his father pioneers of the genre.

12:58 Is in his flarly year. It's father is at the end of the year. It was thisaed Win. Actually even attribute to to is the best song. It was actually one of my favorite songs about in in our concert. So I was in charge of making sure, make sure we get the best conditions, making sure that we are really really good. Making sure usual she's on on ping et cetera. As well. I had that, you know, I'm great drugger. So we got our first consert in and not only you know, I had the blessing to see. This as well, you know, not only was just just is it just a success. We not only just the stage it was was sold out, but it was actually wasn't sold out. It was actually over sold out. It was the first time in his history.

13:42 That's everything else. And so when we're actually sold actually over sold. So so that ticket they got in that was a ticket well they had the tickets. And then I find out actually by the second concert that that it was actually it was actually a fight and I didn't even notice it. But it was the first time the only couple was there. It was the first time again that it was that. And I even asked the people, really, really was that? So I am regressing to really be the first Australiana. I'm actually austracted manaway for people that A and I have the first one to not play and duct and and and bring this up. My music to these venues so procesively.

14:23 All that includes masters to a board in which we we had White Club Genres as our guests performer recently Land Hollock. So so really. It was a moment. So and but but in terms of what I did say I would present was the next few concerts we. Have Mortreal, which is Canada, which I will be my first time everyone in Canada. Doesn't matter where we are in the world.

16:26 We communicate through our music. Although I wonder if let's say you got the you caught the call to Iceland, was there communication challenges when you went or other places you've gone, Have you had any challenges in that area or it just music kind of takes over and that's itication, I'm sorry. Communication, yes, communication as far as like, Okay, what we need or what you like? What they would expect from you, or what what or something you might need, or how do you you know, how would you well?

17:07 You know, I speak English very well. I don't speak Italian very well though my my family's Italian, but I can understand it. I just need help communicating if I wanted something, or if I wanted to communicate how I wanted to play or what, you know, where I wanted to stand or perform? Is there Do you find that an issue at all or not at all? Well? Actually I believe it or not. I say this all in love and respectful Iceland, I actually would say that they probably understood need better than a lot of other issues. That's great English, but also a lot of other people speak of other languages and I do speakcause I am a college that I speak other languages only. Okay, you actually have a great knowledge of tweeders, so I do speak. So sometimes when they would speak to me, I know what they would say and probably accent with them, so they even notice.

18:00 I said, yeah, you understood. So that's that's not another comic, you know. I believe that's the way around it. So so no, guys, And then I would say the other countries I've been too, places like like what, I really don't people, I don't know how, but you know, I always believe that yes universal, so because it is a way, and I believe that there's things that just everyone knows. If you've been you know, struggle, you know music, you know, so you are like should have you know? As well as having you know?

18:47 And then then there's also a money No I have piano, yes exactly. If you if okay, so you perform you you are, I would consider you celebrity. You you travel, you have this, you've you've created this connection in this avenue that people connect with you and are able to contact you and invite you to events like the call you got from Iceland. Uh for our listeners out there that are maybe just getting into the music world, or who are or who have been locally performing and want to do more and expand what would you suggest to them, what would be something to inspire them to be able to maybe travel to a different state even what would be your thoughts?

19:44 Will answer, I would say with any good question, But I believe that the answer is very complex and a soviety. I believe it is that very odds to understand what's the situation, what they can we can't do you personally, you know, I've got to you know, you know a lot of things going on for me that are very good, but doesn't mean that you know most of my time, but personally a lot to tell you that I like. So you know, I had to leave a like more over as well as you know, I had to understand. That each is different, you know, the rules different. You know, getting and I believe that's here, it's at the best place in terms of you know, getting stuff that performed to be a celert. You know, it's easy when you are very celebert come here established. You know, I've been blessed to make myself more every single day to the fact that I get connected with people outside of or especially outside of the supper so you know, whether you're in the States, you know, you can just be not that one place, not.

20:49 You you're just being a local, just a national artist. So probably being flexible as well as you know, using social. Media to connect with other people, et cetera, whether it be I mean, I think it's it's pretty easier level before and it's easier. So I mean, I you know, we're not in persons right now, you're making this happened and probably like the years ago. I was, you know, and then try to make an as that yes, sorry. That it's not my idea that's saying with with music in terms of also auditions, et cetera. You know it's it is.

21:30 Yeah, So it's a matter of using social media to your advantage. In fact, I had a conversation the other night with another musician friend of mine and she's she's the singer of the band, but she's also the manager of the band, and she's like, that's kind of like the job I don't like. It's like I have to do it, but it's like you have to do the legwork to make the connections, to reach out and not sit back and wait like you're saying, don't don't wait for somebody to call you, you know, make the connections that you need to make, and then word gets out and like with your talent, you had Iceland. You know, somebody in Iceland calling you or recommending you to go there, and that's that's beautiful. And so I think for all of us too, I think it's a matter of if you want to do something, if you want to create something, be somewhere, go somewhere with your life and have this dream of being bigger. Just keep keep at it, keep going, and you know, step it up and make connections and reach out and don't be afraid, right because I think a lot of us are. We're grown ups, but we're also like little children inside. We're afraid of the rejection, and so we can't live like that. We have to like step out and be like, yeah, like I'm playing, I would like to you know what, how can I get into your venue? How can I you know, be a part of that? And and for you, yes.

23:00 No rejection. I believe that rejection is in the autumns all as space. If it's start thinking as rejection, but rather a more of a guy to get into the right door. So so so if it's at a this is it doesn't open. You know, it's not gonna doesn't open, but he does. You know, what's the problem to be? You know, you feel that's the way you want to go, you know, and it's probably even better, you know. And I like, there's it's something oh that rejected me, you know. And I think there's a psychological thing that people talk about whether. You don't you really. Appreciate something because it was really because oh wow, that one door rejected.

23:44 Keep it in your head. It's kind of saying there's a white wallet and there's a black mark. Who are not Yeah, he did throw on the world one day and me focus so much on that. So so and that as well as also that it's probably helping you listen as a director, as a musician, you're going to say something that's anything that's not going for you, but one door, it's for your benefits. So if one person. Says no for whatever reason, to opportunity playing in my orchestra or even dating, I say any aspect, trust me, it's for the fact you avoided something you want to.

24:26 Be involant. That that's that's that situation, that the situation on the that that that that pal. You know that that's that dimension, you know like them. You know you said that what that says you realize it, that's what that's what you're No. I love that. I love your attitude and I love and you know, rejection is just a guy to like redirect us. Rejection is a redirection and that's such a positive way to look at at that instead of in feeling hurt and not not accepted, not you know. So it's it's I love that rejection is redirection. 25:18 I know, for my audience out there, I always had this is I'm in my second season and I've had a lot of my audience ask me like, don't stop playing, because I used to play for several years. I had a show where I just played for hours at a time, and I stopped that because life has has me busy and busier. And so I love the fact that I get to play here on my show for a couple of minutes. But I'm even more excited today because I have you here with me, and so I would love for you to join me and I mentioned earlier. They they've nicknamed me here in my area. They call me the instant composer because I just kind of let it flow and play through me, and whatever the energy is, it plays through me. 30:01 I mean I think you were met at the beginning playing playing my experts for excerpt from from You Need Says, introductions and quiations that actually was the final that was banale at the very. So that's one of them. I really love playing by any pieces, but also plaster pieces, which by the way, you know, not actually you know outside I want to do. You know, also can as the projects well as original projects, my my own compositions as well. Oh I love love of my sas as well as Cantabilin. So yeah, a lot of these pieces. I love playing Compound, I love love playing benew that that actually, in fact the honest that we play what we are playing with the biggest band right now in the world of New Look, and we do yes so that I personally just love paying one one practice.

31:14 Definite know th things like that as well as anything. But I just still go to it. I just I really love general social corust me. I'm just bus the time, and then anything that I personally touch it out. And that no way that we can speak in terms of our language. Our universal language is music that I love. I as the music. You know. I looked back. I looked on Facebook really quick and of course, like I through the scroll, we always see you know each other's stuff. You were recently in a movie or was that a video? Are you talking about? What was I doing with? Always I speaking?

31:55 Because I know you were just in a in a you know, in a tie uh and you were you were orchestra, but you were also on a yacht. Oh, I know what you're talking about. That is actually that is actually our commercial for for the Center. Wow. Okay, that was commercial and the concept the Dumber because it really is those addition next two plus bill and especially cases under they are very big verbic concert stars, our biggest ones. And actually, I'll tell you, guys, for anyone. That's listening, I actually have to get more players for that one because they were actually expanding it, you know. So so my orchestra we have almost fifty people, but for the next one that I have to add about twenty more. So we're talking about like sixty seventy people.

Obviously latitude, but also also you know, I'm actually willing to expand more with my wind section. And I have a silly personal question. So my mom's side of the family, there are one hundred percent of Silian, so I've been there many times. I'm very close to my relatives in Sicily, and I understand the language. I don't speak it fluently, but I speak it enough to get around. And I do understand a little bit of Spanish, now, Steven Avi, elgato, can you please share with us what I know what it means in Italian? But what does it mean for you?

36:42 What does what do I mean? In Italian? So so in Italian and it called me silly, but elgatto means the cat. Oh yes, yes, so it does. Okay, So what is your what inspired you to give yourself that name? Well, believe it or not, you know, in Spanish it's a very very complex language in terms of meanings certain words. So for for what I'm from, you know, the gato me means the of the eyes, you know, so that like eyes green or blue? So fine, a little bit changes, but that's I was born blue off in another places?

37:24 Yeah yeah, but but another places. You know, I think almost financially, we just mean you obviously the animal by the places, especially in the Republic, can be like the smart one. All the places can be the bad. So that's why I use it as as a way of saying, you know, eato is what it means to you? So it's not there's not a clear definition. It's what it's what's you know, what it means? What is your perception that's that's what. Now are you? Are you from Florida or what? What nationality are you? Sorry? I'm Gustay guying from the singles from a small town called back List and in the County of Ocus and the seventh Province of Costa Rica, people's called Monge and I personally the honor I'm being from there because really the honstrality is there's not many, if at all, any cost Ricans that have really really made it.

I never besides just being theself, you know, one of person any no matter what you are, you can be a poor person in Saudi Arabia and be like, oh, yeah, I know obvious.

And two for those that want to learn how to play the violin, like what you know? Do you have some tips for them as well?

43:03 It's like, you know, what is patients? Patients? Patients and when you have the patients, have more patients because we have to learn out of breakdown every single thing. You know so so, but you know I expect except you know the basically the basic notes you have that the C or the D and you have right in there. So it's really interest like pattern that you do. And then you can quote in the next one and I will sales is very important accident. So when you have patients, when you can think slowly.

43:47 And you analysis and use your whole mind and into work, you can actually see the details and be like, okay, so. Nice that you know, because you need that, we really understand. It's going to understand. You're planning also a lot a lot of this and you know what this is not this is you know what that is. It's your eye. I love that. You know why this is a universal language. Music because because of discuse, our our our eyes visual so that that that's that's why people like like like Ray Charles or Steve Wonder, you know, whether he's blind or nuts. You know, you know, they hear music that they understand from patterns.

44:41 They hear the noises of course. That that's that's that's part of using your actual eyes. You know, you're seeing it visually, seeing a visually because you know the world work sometimes coming from here. That's why low because low and speaking of the violin and tell you something. Okay, it's being inn is also very important, but it's not being sure that absolutely. Because this it's not the same this. Any that that's. These references you know help you. That's very important.

What you're sharing is something I teach my students, whether it's violin, piano or any other instrument, it's so important to be patient with yourself, patient and learning the instrument, patient and and listening and hearing and and I know, even as a musician, myself, my my thinking I have to sometimes set aside because I have to rely on my my hearing and my knowing and my feeling when I'm playing more so than my thinking brain, because sometimes my thinking brain will throw me off completely. So so I love that that you inspire us by saying your ear is your eye, and it's so true, Stephen, thank you so much for being on our show today, and of course, as always we will.
